Isipathana overcome gallant Kingswood
Despite unfavorable weather conditions, the Dialog Schools Rugby League Week 02 fixture at the Bogambara Stadium went ahead last evening, with Isipathana College producing a fearless performance to defeat Kingswood College 32-22 in an entertaining contest.
Isipathana, led by Thrinethra Dodangoda, showcased their trademark flair and intensity to outplay a determined Kingswood outfit captained by Thavishka Ekanayake. The Colombo school dominated long periods of possession, pinning Kingswood in their half and displaying solid defence when needed.
Right from kick-off, both teams attacked with pace and intent, and the crowd was treated to a thrilling start. Isipathana struck first with a superb unconverted try to go 5-0 up. Kingswood replied with an equally well-crafted unconverted try to level the score at 5-5.
As the rain began to fall, handling became difficult, but the intensity remained high. Both teams added a try apiece before halftime. Isipathana’s conversion made the difference, giving them a 12-10 lead at the break.
In the second half, Isipathana take control, applying sustained pressure in Kingswood’s territory. They added three more tries to stretch their lead to 27-10 with clinical finishing and sharp ball movement.
Kingswood fought back bravely, reducing the deficit to 27-22 with two well-taken tries — one of them converted However, Isipathana sealed the game with a final try, finishing the match at 32-22. Both teams showed excellent effort and skill despite the challenging weather.
