Third-year coloursman and star second-rower, Thinethra Dodangoda, has been named captain of the Isipathana College 1st XV rugby team for the 2025 schools’ rugby season.
A powerhouse in the forward pack, Thinethra has been a cornerstone of Isipathana’s rugby success since 2023. Renowned for his dominance in lineouts and relentless work at the breakdown, he combines physicality with tactical intelligence, making him a natural leader on the field.
This appointment adds another highlight to Thinethra’s rugby journey. In 2024, he served as vice-captain of the Sri Lanka Under-18 team on their tour to Malaysia, demonstrating his leadership and ability to perform under pressure on an international stage. With this experience, he is well-positioned to guide the Green Shirts as they aim to uphold their legacy as one of the top school rugby sides in Sri Lanka.
Backing him this season is a talented squad featuring key performers such as Sethum Rajapaksha, Abdul Ahamed, Avishka Hiran, Sithupa Bometh, and Shaakib Zumri. This blend of seasoned campaigners and emerging stars is expected to inject dynamism and depth into the team, making Isipathana a formidable force in every encounter.
Widely celebrated as the “Kings of School Rugby”, Isipathana College boasts a rich history of producing exceptional players and fielding dominant teams year after year.
