A try for tree initiative by Isipathana College 1st XV rugby team

🔊

The 2024 schools rugby season has been nothing short of extraordinary for Isipathana College. Our 1st XV squad delivered a campaign that will be remembered for years to come, finishing as Dialog Schools Rugby League runners-up and lifting the Knockout Trophy as champions. It was a season that ended on the highest of notes.

But the pride did not stop at the school level. Our talented players wore the national jersey with distinction, representing the Sri Lanka U18 team at the Asia Rugby 7s tournament in Malaysia. Among all the schoolboy rugby players in the country, it was an Isipathana boy who earned the singular honour of being selected for the senior Sri Lanka squad at the Asian 7s Championship in Nepal 2024. That is a testament to the calibre of rugby talent nurtured within our college.

Now, as the final whistle settles on a memorable season, our players are channelling that same energy and passion into something bigger than the game itself.

Planting roots beyond the rugby field

The 1st XV rugby team is launching “A Try for Tree”, an initiative that connects every try scored during the 2024 season to a real and lasting impact on the environment. For each try that crossed the line this year, a tree will be planted by our players. The planting drive will take place on 18th October in Galle, turning sporting achievement into environmental action.

This project reflects the values we hold dear at Isipathana. Our young men are learning that true victory is not only measured by the scoreboard, but also by the legacy we leave behind for future generations.

Led by an old boy who inspires

The initiative is proudly felicitated by Group Captain Nalin De Silva, a distinguished old boy of Isipathana College. His support brings this vision to life and reminds us of the enduring bond between past and present generations of Isipathana.

The organising committee has already set its sights on making this an annual tradition. Each rugby season going forward will carry a green promise, ensuring that the tries scored on the field continue to bear fruit long after the boots are hung up.

We invite the entire Isipathana family to rally behind this wonderful cause. When our boys score for the college, they now score for nature too.
