Isipathana College produced a superb late rally to beat Wesley College 10-0 in a thrilling Inter-Schools Under-20 ‘A’ Division League Rugby Tournament match played at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.
After a scoreless first half, Isipathana got their act together well during the last few moments of the game to turn things around as they scored a goal and a penalty to remain unbeaten this season.
The outcome, no doubt, will be a bitter experience for the Wesleyites as they made a promising start but faltered later as they were penalised with a red card and two yellow cards because of some indiscipline performances on the field.
In fact, Wesley were reduced to 14-men after just 20 minutes of play and they went into further trouble when they were cut to 13-men shortly after the break.
However, on both occasions Isipathana just could not capitalise on the extra players as they too fumbled on several occasions while failing to add the finishing touches at the last moment.
But they eventually sealed the game in their favour during the dying moments of the game when Wewala Pandith pounced over on the open side to touch down after a successful rolling maul.
Rinesh Silva added the extra points after having earlier given Isipathana the lead with an easy penalty in the 45th minute of the game.
