Isipathana in hunt for Rugby Head Coach
Isipathana College, one of Sri Lanka’s leading rugby-playing schools, has started the search for a new Head Coach to guide their First XV rugby team for the 2025-2026 season.
Under the guidance of their outgoing coach, Dhanushka Boteju – a former Isipathana, CR & FC and Sri Lanka prop forward – the “Green Shirts” lifted the prestigious President’s Trophy Knockout Tournament in April this year. They edged out Trinity College Kandy 12-9 in a tense final to bring silverware back to Havelock Town.
But the League Tournament told a different story. The Pathanians struggled to match their past dominance, falling to defeats against S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia (24-36), Trinity College Kandy (10-32), St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya (7-14) and Royal College Colombo (31-34). These setbacks left them in sixth place in the Cup Championship standings.
Determined to bounce back, the Isipathana Rugby Management Committee has now officially advertised for a new Head Coach. The appointment, they believe, will be vital to restore their winning culture and keep the school at the forefront of Sri Lankan rugby.
