Isipathana College emerged as the U16 Plate Champions at the recently concluded Inter-School Hockey Tournament, capping off a remarkable campaign marked by disciplined teamwork, defensive excellence, and consistent performances.

The Green Machine dominated the group stage, winning all four matches while maintaining a flawless defensive record by not conceding a single goal. Their results included convincing victories over Zahira College (4–0), Ananda College (2–0), St. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela (2–0), and Trinity College, Kandy (1–0).

Carrying their momentum into the knockout stage, Isipathana secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory against Dharmapala College in the quarter-finals to book a place in the Cup semi-finals.

The semi-final against long-time rivals Royal College proved to be the team’s toughest challenge. After an intense and closely fought contest ended level at full-time, the match was decided by a penalty shootout, with Royal edging past Isipathana in heartbreaking fashion.

Despite the disappointment, Isipathana responded with resilience and determination in the Plate Final. Producing another commanding display, they defeated St. Joseph’s College, Maradana 2–0 to lift the U16 Plate Championship.

Individual Honours

The team’s outstanding tournament was further recognised with two major individual awards:

• Best Player: Naqib Zaffarulla
• Best Goalkeeper: Sanuka Dilsara

The achievement has been widely celebrated by the school’s administration, coaching staff, players, and supporters, who commended the squad’s commitment, discipline, and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. The championship stands as another proud milestone for Isipathana College’s rich sporting tradition.
