Isipathana College (formerly Greenlands College) has reached a historic milestone with the unveiling of a five-storied Advanced Level Science Complex, a groundbreaking addition to its educational infrastructure. Funded by the extraordinary generosity of distinguished alumnus Dr. Jagath Alwis, this Rs. 650 million project is poised to transform the educational experience of its Advanced Level Science students.

The state-of-the-art complex seamlessly integrates with the existing science facilities, including the renovated science laboratories completed in 2022 at a cost of Rs. 12 million, also funded by Dr. Alwis. The new building features modern lecture halls, cutting-edge learning resources, and advanced laboratories, showcasing an unwavering commitment to academic excellence and innovation.

At the heart of this transformative initiative lies Dr. Alwis’s steadfast dedication to his alma mater. Reflecting on his contribution, Dr. Alwis said, “This is my way of giving back to a school that shaped my life and values. I believe in creating opportunities for young minds to flourish, and I hope this facility inspires students to pursue knowledge and achieve greatness.”

The project was meticulously managed by a four-member professional committee, appointed by the Isipathana College Old Boys’ Association, comprising Major General Susil Chandrapala, Eng. Sumith Asela Jayasekera, Eng. Nihal Dissanayake, and Mr. Sudath Thalahity as Project Secretary. This collaboration underscores the collective determination of the alumni to uplift the educational standards of their alma mater.

The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mr Naveen Gunawardena, one of the Pioneer Students of Greenland College in 1952, which later become Isipathana College.

The ceremonial opening of the Advanced Level Science Complex was attended by distinguished guests, including officials from the Ministry of Education, alumni, parents, and students. Principal of Isipathana College, Mr. Dharshana Udawatta, expressed his profound gratitude, stating, “This remarkable building is more than just a facility; it is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing the best possible education to our students. We are deeply thankful to Dr. Jagath Alwis for his visionary generosity.”

The Advanced Level Science Complex stands as a beacon of progress, ambition, and the enduring legacy of Isipathana College. It symbolises the school’s commitment to nurturing future scientists, innovators, and leaders who will shape
Sri Lanka’s future.

With this monumental achievement, Isipathana College solidifies its reputation as a leader in Sri Lankan education, continuing its proud legacy of producing accomplished individuals who make meaningful contributions to the world.
