Isipathana Crowned Zahira Rugby 7s Cup Champions

Isipathana College produced a commanding performance to defeat hosts Zahira College 26-7 in the Cup final and emerge champions of the Zahira Rugby 7s tournament at the Royal Sports Complex yesterday.

The Green Shirts booked their place in the final after edging DS Senanayake College 15-10 in a thrilling Cup semi-final that was decided in extra time. Zahira College advanced to the title clash with a 19-10 victory over Science College.

The final was dominated by Isipathana, who showcased their trademark pace, disciplined defence and clinical finishing. Although Zahira crossed for a solitary try, Isipathana remained firmly in control throughout the contest, running in four tries to complete a comprehensive 26-7 victory and secure the Cup title.

DS Senanayake College recovered from their semi-final disappointment to defeat Science College 19-12 and finish third in the Cup competition.

In the Plate Championship, Vidyartha College overcame Mahanama College 27-19 in the semi-finals before defeating Dharmaraja College 24-14 in the final to lift the Plate trophy. Dharmaraja had earlier secured their place in the final with a hard-fought 15-10 win over Sri Sumangala College.

Meanwhile, Thurstan College claimed the Bowl title with an impressive unbeaten run. They defeated Lumbini College 33-12 in the semi-finals before overpowering Ananda College 35-7 in the final. Ananda had earned their place in the decider after recording a convincing 32-5 victory over Nalanda College.
