Isipathana hosts over a thousand students for all island trilingual media showdown

🔊

Isipathana College opened its doors to schools from across the island recently, as the college’s Media Unit brought “Sandhwani’23” to life. The all island inter-school trilingual media competition drew around a thousand students from a hundred schools, making it one of the largest school media events in the country.

A platform for young voices in every language

What makes Sandhwani special is that it celebrates media talent across all three languages. In a country where trilingual communication is more important than ever, an event like this gives young students a stage to showcase their skills in journalism, broadcasting, and creative media, regardless of which language they work in.

The competitions covered a range of media disciplines, and the quality of participation reflected just how seriously schools across Sri Lanka take media education. With expert journalists from leading media channels serving as judges, the students were assessed by professionals who know what it takes to succeed in the industry.

Organised with pride by the Isipathana Media Unit

The event was held at the college premises under the guidance of Principal Oshara Panditharathne. The opening ceremony set the tone for the day, with addresses from Deputy Principal Pradeep Chandrasekara, teacher in charge Manjula Sirisena, and Sandhwani’23 project chairman Musthaq Hussain.

Pulling off an event of this scale takes serious planning and coordination. For the Isipathana Media Unit to bring together a hundred schools and a thousand students under one roof is no small achievement. It speaks to the organisational capability and ambition that runs through the college’s extracurricular programmes.

More than rugby. More than the classroom

Events like Sandhwani remind us that Isipathana is about much more than what happens on the rugby field or inside the classroom. The college continues to create platforms where students can develop real-world skills, connect with peers from across the island, and learn from industry professionals.

The ICOIC family congratulates the Media Unit and everyone involved in making Sandhwani’23 a resounding success. Here is to an even bigger edition next year.
