Saliya Kumara resigns from Isipathana

🔊

Isipathana College can confirm that head coach Saliya Kumara has tendered his resignation following the completion of a highly successful three-year tenure with the Greens.

Kumara arrived at Isipathana with a reputation built across some of the finest rugby institutions in the country. A former player of Vidyartha College, Trinity College, Kandy SC, and the Sri Lanka national team, he brought with him a deep understanding of the game and a winning mentality that quickly left its mark on the programme.

A record that speaks for itself

The numbers tell the story of what Kumara achieved during his time at the helm. In three seasons, he guided the Greens to a League championship title, a League runners-up finish, and a third-place finish. In the knockouts, his record was equally impressive, delivering two Knockout trophies along with a runners-up finish. It is a body of work that places him among the most successful coaches in Isipathana’s recent rugby history.

Beyond the silverware, Kumara brought structure, discipline, and a competitive edge that elevated the entire rugby programme. The culture he helped build during his three years will continue to benefit the squads that follow.

What comes next

Kumara is set to return to Kandy, where he will continue his coaching career with the ‘A’ Division Park Club. According to reliable sources, he is also tipped to take over the head coaching role at St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota for the 2025 rugby season.

A grateful farewell

The Isipathana rugby family extends its sincere gratitude to Saliya Kumara for everything he gave to the college during his time with us. His dedication, expertise, and passion for the game made a lasting impact on the players he coached and the programme he led. We wish him every success in the chapters ahead and have no doubt he will continue to make a difference wherever he goes.

Once a Green, always a Green. Thank you, Coach.
