Former Isipathana College star, current Kandy Sports Club centre, and national Sevens and Fifteens player Shaahid Zumri has been named captain of the Sri Lanka Under-20 Boys team for the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship, scheduled to be held in Bihar, India next month.
The two-day tournament will take place on 9 and 10 August, with the top 12 Boys teams and an equal number of Girls teams competing concurrently in the regional championship.
A proven performer known for his composure and leadership qualities, Zumri’s appointment signals a focused and ambitious campaign for the young Tuskers. He represented the Sri Lanka National Sevens team in Nepal last year and was also part of the New Zealand Under-85 kg team tour to Sri Lanka, where he featured for the Sri Lanka outfit.
Former St. Peter’s College and CH and FC player Pasindu Bandara has been named vice-captain. Bandara brings creativity and strong tactical awareness, and is expected to play a key role as a playmaker within the squad.
The final 12-member touring squad will be coached by Shamli Nawas, who will serve as Head Coach for the Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship campaign.
